Bamberg

Having now made our way South and into Bavaria our first stop in this region is Bamberg. The campsite is just a couple of Km’s outside the city, on a river and the weather is good so we stop 4 nights, think this is the longest we have stayed anywhere so far! Travelling is fantastic but also pretty tiring so we have been looking for an appropriate rest place.

Bamberg is a truly lovely little city and for once, suffered no war wounds so most of the historic buildings, of which there are many, are originals. The city is full of quaint buildings of varying styles

With a relaxed café culture

The Rathaus (town hall) is perched on twin bridges on the Regnitz River that flows through the town centre

And is decorated in an elaborate Romanesque style

There are some lovely half-timbered houses in Little Venice, which is complete with punts and canals. It will be interesting to compare it to the real thing once we get there!
